Where’s Teego?

This is another of those “Where is that dumb cat” posts. He loves to hang out with us, but he also likes his own space sometimes.

Don’t buy pets from backstreet breeders!

We’re feeling very upset and ranty today. We think it’s a great shame when people’s dogs or cats get pregnant by “accident” and then plan to sell the puppies or kittens, and continue to claim that they’re animal lovers. They’re nothing more than backstreet breeders.

They justify it by saying that if a dog or cat has a litter, then it means that they have less lady problems later on. But we think that’s just an excuse that backstreet breeders make up to justify their actions.

I don’t understand people who buy backstreet puppys and kittens. I came from RSPCA Ashford. Teego came from Foal Farm as a kitten and cost £150 but INCLUDED in that price was a certificate of health from a vet, his first set of kittie injections, AND his Teutering. So actually, it worked out pretty cheap when you think about it.

So I simply CANNOT understand why anyone would buy any animal off a backstreet breeder, because although the initial price is cheaper, you have to pay for neutering and injections on top of that. PLUS you can rest assured that from an animal rescue place, they’ll be honest about any possible issues with the animal. Of course, if you’re dumb enough to buy off a backstreet breeder, you’ll probably not be responsible enough to have it neutered either, and probably want it to have “just one litter” before it gets neutered.

Also, buying a puppy or kitten from a backstreet breeder, you have no idea if the animal has even been looked at by a vet (Of course they haven’t)

Everyone loves puppys and kittens. I would have dearly loved to see Teego produce a litter of his own before he got neutered, but I know that rescue centres are already overcrowded, so it would be in direct opposition to my claim of being an animal lover and “accidentally” having a litter.

A responsible breeder will have every kitten/puppy checked by a vet and be able to show PROOF, and will already have had its first injections, and will also make you sign a contract to say that you will have it neutered within a certain period of time. Anything less, and you’re a backstreet breeder.

My friend the grand champion abssinian cat breeder hardly makes any money from breeding her cats, because the costs of vets and injections and being reputable are why pedigree cats are so expensive. She says it’s more of an expensive hobby than a way of making megabucks!

So, my question to you, all my furriends, have I gone off the deep end with this, or do you agree with me? Can private/backstreet breeders be ok? Let me know in the comments!

Adopt a pet from a rescue centre.
Don’t buy from some dodgy backstreet breeder.

Teego’s CURED!

Yay me! I’ve finished my course of yummy antibiotics, and I went to see the vet yesterday, and she pronounced me all fit and well. (Teego goes to the vet)

I don’ t have:

  • eosinophilic granuloma complex ulcers (and I confess I copied and pasted that from Daisy – I’m only a cat! I can’t be expected to spell!)
  • A tumour
  • Acne
  • Cooties
  • Wartime shrapnel damage
  • Bloaty head
  • Slack Tongue
  • Hairyitis

So I am 100% Teego again! (Although I may be ever so slightly cross-eyed!!)

Teego’s been to the V-E-T!

I know we haven’t posted for a while, but that’s just because Daddycat’s so lazy, It’s not because I’ve been ill or anything.

This morning, Mommacat noticed I had a lump on my bottom lip, but it didn’t bother me or anything, cos I’m a manly tough boycat. So they decided to leave it for a day and see if it went away.

By this evening, it still hadn’t gone down, so Mommacat & Daddycat decided to take me to the vet. I’ve only been to the vet once before, and they stole my boy-bits! Anyway, I was very nervous as we were in the waiting room, and I might have trembled a little bit!

scared cat in basket at vets

Anyway, the Vet called me in, and I was really surprised! She was a lady Vet! Of course, being a boycat, I turned on my charm, and let her move me around and poke me in the mouth, and I didn’t make a squeak!  She was very nice Vet and was called Kate Panek-Kaminska from Anderson Veterinary Group so any nervous cats in Orpington can see her and feel happy.

Cat has lump on bottom lipShe said she wondered if it might be “fatty chin” (has anyone heard of that?) which might be a bit serious, but thought it would be best to treat it as a deep skin infection first with antibiotics and anti-inflammatry stuff, and if it didn’t clear up in a few days, then she’d have a more serious look at it.

I think I deserve some sympathy and treets, don’t you?

Wait! What’s she doing in that cupboard of syringes????

Update – Teego’s fine.

A very sad story

Furrends, I wanted to let you know about a terribly sad story that I read on a friends blog a while ago.

It’s about four cats, that all went mising on the same day! Hiro, Possum, Coffee and Coconut were all around and accounted for during lunch, and didn’t reappear for dinner! I think we’ve all experienced cats that stay out past their dinner occasionally, but when all four cats don’t come back, you’d have to feel a little strange.

It’s now been 11 days, and as far as I know, the four cats haven’t been back.

I know how I felt when my Auntie Scampie died, but to lose FOUR Cats in one go? I would be beside myself! When your cat dies, at least you know what’s happened to them, but for four of them to dissapear without any clue would be just devastating!

So today, I’d like to ask people to visit http://jimbothecat.blogspot.com and to give them some support, because they must be going through a dreadfully hard time now.
